The Metro @ Chinatown Senior Apartments is an adaptive reuse project of an existing industrial warehouse space located near the Chinatown Goldline metro station. The primary open space on the 7th floor roof deck is an extension of the adjacent interior community room. Shade and gardenesque planting created to work with the existing structural limitation of the building include the use of a Bison Pedestal system of IPE wood decking, integral planters and seating. The steel frames or “living trees” were carefully crafted to support green canopies of Blood Red Trumpet flowering vines for form and function -- as art and shade. The planting palette included sculptural succulents, fragrant geraniums and citrus trees. While enjoying the panoramic views of Downtown, Chinatown and the San Gabriel Mountains, residents can share amenities including a gas BBQ, gas firepit and lounge area with friends and loved ones.
