Manhattan Beach Residence

This modest 720 square foot garden was designed from multiple vantage points: a bird’s eye view for the homeowners to enjoy the garden from the upstairs windows; eye-level for relaxing and entertaining; and the walk-street view for the pedestrian-only path that faces the garden. The geometric shapes made of Ipe wood, strips of low-water fescue, concrete, and sloping raised beds made Cot-ten steel.

The succulent mix of sedum and coral aloe, which grow under a structural tree aloe are off set against the soft coastal woollybush. Longleaf mat-rush planted along a sloping raised bed sways in the breeze.
