In a part of Venice, California, that is making the transition from modest mid-century bungalows to contemporary home remodels, these homeowners created a private backyard with an open-air dining room surrounded by gravel. Previously, the space was almost completely barren, so it was vitally important to inject some sense of spatial definition. Landscape architect Mark Tessier had the idea to add some truly green architecture.
